About the conference

This conference aims to explore the intersection of tourism, sustainability, health and well-being in and around protected areas. In particular, the conference aims to understand the lasting contribution that these experiences can have for the visitor and the destination through the transformative potential of the tourist encounter with natural resources. Transformative outcomes for people and places will be explored through a focus on health, well-being and sustainable development, providing insights into the many contexts, challenges and opportunities of tourism in and around protected areas.

The conference is aimed at academics, practitioners, young tourism professionals, and tourism enthusiasts. Over the course of three days, various parallel presentations will present the latest research findings and approaches of the tourism industry in accordance with the topics described earlier and beyond to a specialized audience.

The conference is a global gathering of experts, route managers and builders, destinations, enthusiasts and academics who meet every year to share knowledge, network and ensure that the benefits routes offer to society continue to be sustainable and supported around the world.

Our first conference was held in 2010.
The conference is the only event of its kind that provides a truly global platform for trails from around the world and is held in a different country every two years.

The program is a growing contributor to global GDP and plays a significant role in adventure tourism, particularly soft adventure.

Trails make a significant contribution to nature and cultural heritage conservation and healthy lifestyles. They benefit local communities, tourists, health, recreation and education in nature. The conference aims to bring this global community together.
